Once again, it has been a great year for music videos. Each year artists turn out more and more impressive videos to accompany their songs. Whether they are colorful or dark; funny or dramatic; intense or calm; simple or complex; the following 15 vids offer something unique. Enjoy!
15. The Weeknd - “What You Need”
14. Azealia Banks - “212”
13. Real Estate - “It’s Real”
12. Bon Iver - “Holocene”
11. Destroyer - “Kaputt”
10. Lady Gaga - “Born This Way”
09. Nicola Roberts - “Beat of My Drum”
08. No Age - “Fever Dreaming”
07. Lana Del Rey - “Video Games”
06. Major Lazer - “Original Don”
05. Battles - “Ice Cream”
04. Tyler, the Creator - “Yonkers”
03. Beyonce - “Countdown”
02. Rihanna - “We Found Love”
01. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - “PONPONPON”
It’s really hard to deny the awesomeness of the J-Pop smash hit, “PONPONPON.” It is the most visually appealing and interesting music video that I’ve seen in a long time. It doesn’t take itself seriously and is just a talented, cute girl showing us cute things she likes and being silly. Then we have Rihanna’s “We Found Love” - or as I say, Enter the Void as in a 4:36 music video. Rihanna shows us a side of herself that she has never shown before and the uninhibited, puppy love and self-damaging video comes in at number two. Beyonce’s classy, Audrey Hepburn “Countdown” is too cute and fierce to be lower than the number three spot. Tyler, the Creator’s sick horrorcore video for “Yonkers” is captivating for all the grossest reasons and the Tumblr-tastic video for Battles’ “Ice Cream” is rad. Hopefully some of your favorite videos made the list! If not, don’t hesitate to tell me your favorite video of 2011!
